Reggie Bonnafon signed his letter of intent this morning. There was not school so there was no ceremony, but the Trinity senior got plenty of praise from his new coaching staff at the signing party. In fact the first recruit Petrino said by name was Bannafon in his press conference.

Some might have thought that Petrino might move Bonnafon to receiver to use his athleticism, but the way that Petrino and the coaching staff talked about him it seems that they are excited to use him at quarterback. Coach Petrino even wants him to compete for the starting job.

“We’re really excited about Reggie Bonnafon,” Petrino said via Steve Jones of the Courier-Journal.” Can make all the different throws. He adds to the that dimension of running the ball.”

Bonnafon is considered to be the 10th-best dual QB in the 2014 class by 247Sports.com.

He committed more than a year ago, which was huge for a Charlie Strong commit since Coach Strong didn’t recruit very well in state. Apparently though, Charlie Strong pushed hard for Reggie once he left for Texas, according to the CJ’s Adam Himmelsbach.

But there was several teams who went for the local QB, including Kentucky who Bonnafon grew up wanting to play for.

In the end of a long recruiting process Bonnafon is a Cardinal. He will be a part of the rich tradition of local stars wearing red. Something, as I mentioned before, didn’t happen very much in the past four years.

Soon we will be playing big games in the ACC on the back of a local star. Fans will chant, “Reggie! Reggie”. Welcome to the family Mr. Bonnafon.
