Day 2 of the HoopHall Classic featured a pair of players who will be coming to our area next fall for college. Although both of their teams lost, both Karl Towns and Max Hoetzel put on excellent displays of their abilities.
Karl Towns – Kentucky
St. Joes’s lost in a big way despite Karl Towns having a great 21 point and 9 rebound performance. He only missed 3 shots the entire game as he played the entire 32 minutes. Karl showed tremendous skill as a scoring big man as he hit a wide variety of shots.
After the game Karl talks about potentially playing with Dakari Johnson as well as the other 2014 UK commitments:

Karl was not done – he then competed in the 3 point shootout where he knocked down 12 shots and barely missed the finals. Once he was eliminated, Karl was encouraged to enter the dunk contest. It was the first dunk contest that Karl had ever participated in – and he won!
Here are some highlights from his big night:

Max’s team also lost tonight but Max was named the MVP for Wilbraham and Monson behind a solid 16 point performance that included 3 three point field goals. Max is a fundamentally sound player with an almost perfect shooting stroke. He may have been robbed out of 8 more points. He was clearly fouled on two of his missed 3-pointers and was mugged on a layup attempt – all no calls. Max is probably not ready on the defensive end to play right away but at some point his shooting ability will help IU win games.
