The final 2014 ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll was released last night. The pollsters tabbed the Louisville Cardinals as the number three team in America. Last week the Cards were number five before reeling off three straight to win the AAC Conference tournament.
Down the road, Kentucky moved back into the poll as the 22nd best team in the nation. UK won two games in the SEC Tournament, before losing to Florida, in the title game.
Looking back to the preseason, Kentucky was ranked as the number one team and Louisville the number five team. UofL was the only team in the preseason top five and that finished in the top five.
Looking at the current rankings, Louisville seems to technically be a 1-seed, ranked third in the country. But, the selection committee begged different and dropped them to a 4-seed due to their overall body of work. I, a UK fan will disagree and admit the Cards were screwed and no doubt should have been no worse than a two.
As for Kentucky, most computer numbers and systems have them as high as a 3-seed. Well, the pollsters said no, dropped them to a 8-seed and will now have to beat some very tough teams to make it to Dallas.
