Chris Jones leaving the Cards?
Jones’ tweet on Monday indicated an unpopular decision may be on the horizon for the Cards 2014-2015 anticipated starting Point Guard. With the possibility/rumor that Chris may be headed overseas to begin earning a living playing basketball, there are a few possible implications that Cards fans should expect:
#1. Terry Rozier becomes the starting Point Guard as a Sophomore. Rozier showed flashes of greatness during his Freshman season and with 67 assists with only 22 turnovers (3.04 to 1 assist to turnover ratio compared to Russ Smith’s 1.63 to 1 ratio) the Cards would seemingly have an efficient floor general running Rick’s offense.
#2. Anton Gill moves into a much more prominent role. Rick seems to really like Anton despite the fact he only played 137 total minutes during his freshman season. The 6 ft 3 Gill is expected to gain some much needed muscle during the off season and with a year of Rick’s system under his belt may be primed for a breakout Sophomore campaign. His left handed perimeter shooting would be a welcome addition to a team that is losing their top two three point shooters from a season ago; Russ Smith (70 3PM) and Luke Hancock (68 3PM).
#3. Quintin Snyder will be the backup point guard as a freshman. It has happened before; Peyton Siva backed up Edgar Sosa and effectively contributed as a spark off the bench during his freshman season. Snyder is a 6 ft 1 PG from Ballard HS in Louisville. He is ranked as the #7 PG in his class according to scout.com and was named “Kentucky Mr. Basketball” along with “Gatorade Player of the year” in Kentucky. The question is how quickly Snyder will adapt defensively to Rick’s system. On offense he seems to have what it takes to contribute immediately.
