Catlanta is ready for the Kentucky Wildcats to play their first game in the SEC Tournament Friday night. The Cats will play LSU after the Tigers beat Alabama Thursday, 68-56. Tip-off is at 7pm EST on ESPN3, Wave-3 (NBC Affiliate in Louisville) will be airing the game as well.
The 19-12 Tigers have beaten Kentucky once this year and almost beat them in Rupp Arena on February 22nd. The Tigers took the game to overtime, but in the end Julius Randle was able to get a last second shot in to win 77-76.
Both games were physical and LSU was able to match Kentucky’s size. Junior forward Johnny O’Bryant had 29 points and nine rebounds in the first game and 20 points and 12 rebounds in the overtime loss. At 6’9″, 250-plus lbs., O’Bryant was a forced against Kentucky’s bigs. It will be interesting to see how Calipari changes things up to guard him and keep him off the boards.
John Calipari said earlier in the week that he had his team get more physical in practice, since that is how the refs are going to call the game. He also said that he tweaked some things on offense that got the players very energized. No one knows what this tweak is, but we will get to see if it works against LSU.
